DMV Employee Busted For Making Fake IDs

by admin on August 30, 2010

The best way to get a fake ID is to go directly to the source.  Unfortunately, that’s also how to get the most time.

A former Department of Motor Vehicles employee has been sentenced to federal prison for identity theft and for creating false drivers’ licenses.  Denny Gomes of Lodi was sentenced Monday in federal court in Sacramento. He pleaded guilty to committing the crimes in 2007 and 2008 while he worked at a DMV office in Stockton.

Federal prosecutors say that Gomes was involved with of 12 different fake ID’s.

Gomes, who is 36, admitted taking money in exchange for substituting new photographs on existing DMV records, and for altering a person’s recorded height, weight and address.

Doesn’t sound too bad right? Wrong. Gomes was sentenced to two and a half years in prision.
