We realize that fowl like geese can be a tasty dinner, but there are limits to the lengths we’re willing to go for it.

Not so for Troy Kaczor, 40, of Wausau, Wisconsin. Kaczor was enjoying a day at the Big Bull Fall Park – a day fueled by copious amounts of alcohol.
Kaczor spotted a one-legged goose, and his hunger and inebriated state led him on a wild chase that saw him shed most of his clothing and diving into the Wisconsin River in pursuit of the hobbled bird.
Sergio Lopez, who waits tables at the Mardarin Restaurant overlooking the river and saw firefighters pull the hapless Kaczor from the icy waters told the Wausau Daily Herald “My thought was that he had been drinking. People who have not been drinking don’t do that. It’s not a good time to jump in the river.”
Kaczor’s hopes for catching and roasting the bird quickly became irrelevant, as the frigid temperatures of the Wisconsin River led to him being unable to swim. He was rescued by the Wausau Fire Department.
While Kaczor struck out in his quest for roast goose, he did manage a hot meal out of the ordeal. Wausau Police arrested him for an outstanding warrant, and Kaczor was placed in the Marathon County Jail.
Wausau police say that as far as they know, the goose is still on the loose.
